A trip to the local public library is in order. Gone are the days when libraries only offered books. There are so many new things that libraries are offering their patrons that need to be seen to be believed. Here is a look at some of the more popular offerings that libraries are providing:

1. Children's Programs: From story time, arts and crafts, Mommy & Me groups and age-appropriate movie screenings, libraries are the perfect place to look for free children's activities. In addition some libraries offering parenting workshops to first time Moms and Dads and babysitting training for those who want to gain the confidence and skills (and even certification, where applicable) to be a competent caregiver.

2. Movie Rentals and Screenings: Why spend money on movie rentals when libraries offer the same titles in the same formats for free? Find best sellers, comedies, dramas, indies and hard-to-find titles all in one place. Even better is that most libraries will lend other libraries the movies that they have in stock in the same manner in which they lend books. Many libraries stock new releases on the day they come out, so be sure to sign up on the reservation list to ensure access to the movie as soon as possible. In addition, some libraries also offer screenings of newly released films and popular art house and independent films as well.

3. Free High Speed Internet Access: One of the most expensive monthly bills is likely to be for internet access. The average family in the US pays $40 per month according to a 2007 report in China Daily, though the rates vary depending on location and type of service (ex. high-speed, dial-up). For those who do not need to have internet access in the home, using the library's internet connection is a great way to save some money each month.
