Last night’s show, hosted by comedian Ricky Gervais, was packed with Hollywood’s brightest stars as well as hysterical punch lines by the host, ranging from Angelina Jolie’s baby-adopting habits to Mel Gibson’s alcohol issues. And while some of the anticipated winners respectively won for their categories, there were a few shockers in the bunch.

Best Motion Picture – Drama/ Musical or Comedy

The biggest surprise of the night was Avatar winning the Golden Globe for Best Picture – Drama, rising above Up in the Air (the favorite to win) and the critically acclaimed The Hurt Locker. Fan favorite and box-office hit The Hangover won for Best Picture - Musical or Comedy, defeating director Marc Webb’s creative masterpiece (500)Days of Summer and director Rob Marshall’s masterfully choreographed musical number, Nine.
