Nothing satisfies the appetite for drama like a good reality show, but what really hits the spot is drama mixed with a "feel-good" feeling. That is exactly what Say Yes to the Dress delivers. First airing in 2007, SYTTD has become an obsession for many wedding lovers. Now in its sixth season, the original is going strong, offering even more blissful brides, overbearing mothers, and tearful fathers.
The Premise
As any woman who has ever gone bridal gown shopping can attest, choosing "the one" is just as difficult, if not more so, than finding the man you're going to marry. It's all about finding the "wow-factor", the dress that makes a bride cry or smile so big her face hurts. SYTTD captures all of it, from the beginning of the appointment, a time where the bride-to-be explains her fantasy to her consultant, through the ever-growing pile of rejected dresses, all the way to her ecstatic "yes!" Viewers should know that women must apply to be on the show, and they are not compensated for their appearance, nor do they receive any additional discounts.
It's not just about the bride, though. TLC introduces the viewer to the staff as well, giving insight into their lives in and out of the bridal salon. Viewers become attached to their favorite consultants, agonizing over a particularly nit-picky bride and sighing with relief as a consultant manages to find the perfect gown.
